ESAANZ Conference 2025 was organized by the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia on November 21, 2025.
Min Lee from Korea University, Graduate School of International Studies participated in the ESSANZ Conference, contributing to discussions on human rights, security, and international cooperation in the Asia–Pacific and European contexts. Min Lee (Graduate School of International Studies, Korea University) presented a paper titled “Lessons from the European Court of Human Rights for Addressing Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence in East Asia.” The presentation examined the growing severity of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) as a global and regional challenge, with a particular focus on East Asia. Drawing on jurisprudence from the European Court of Human Rights, the paper highlighted the Court’s dynamic interpretation of state positive obligations and its use of international human rights law to address gender-based violence, including online and digital harms. Min Lee argued that, despite the absence of a binding regional human rights mechanism in East Asia, existing international legal commitments could serve as a foundation for regional guidance and cooperation on TFGBV.
