On May 5, 2024, the Jean Monnet EU Centre of Excellence (JMCE) at Korea University, led by Professor Jae-Seung Lee, organized a special joint field trip in collaboration with Taewon High School. The visit brought together graduate students from Korea University and high school students and teachers from Taewon, creating a unique intergenerational exchange of ideas and perspectives on Europe–Korea relations.
The group visited both the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea and the Embassy of Finland in Korea, where they were warmly welcomed by diplomatic staff.
At the EU Delegation, students received an informative introduction to the Delegation’s work, including how the EU engages with Korea on trade, climate action, digital transformation, education, and global security. The discussion also touched on the importance of public diplomacy and youth involvement in strengthening EU–Korea ties.
At the Embassy of Finland, participants gained insight into Finland’s bilateral cooperation with Korea, Finland’s key foreign policy priorities, and its strong commitment to education, innovation, and sustainability.
Throughout the visit, students had the opportunity to ask questions, ranging from EU policy-making and Finland’s role within the EU to practical advice on international careers, internships, and pathways into diplomatic or EU-related work. The conversations were lively, informative, and inspiring, giving students a firsthand look into how diplomacy functions in practice.
