The KU Jean Monnet EU Centre of Excellence at Korea University Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) invites you to a talk on Denmark’s historic shift in European defence policy.This event examines how Denmark, after more than 30 years of maintaining an opt-out from European Union defence cooperation, reversed course through a national referendum in 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The talk explores the political and security dynamics behind this rapid policy change, why previous attempts to abolish the opt-out failed, and what Denmark’s decision means for EU defence integration, NATO–EU relations, and the future of European security.
